Cuando me hice esa pregunta me puse a pensar en la propuesta educativa que tiene para mis Talleres de Astronomía y Café Científicos. Pero qué significa para el mundo la gran familia del Keck y descubrí que es un gran imán para individuos y organizaciones por una serie de objetivos, valores y propuestas de trabajo en equipo que llevan adelante como filosofía de vida.

When I asked myself that question, I started to think about the educational proposal you have for my Astronomy Workshops and Scientific Coffee. Cuando hablamos de Hawaii pensamos en qué lindo sería pasar unas buenas vacaciones en un archipiélago en el medio del Océano Pacífico rodeado de Playas, Sol, noches de cielo límpido, bailes hawaianos, gente alegre y simpática. Uno empieza a alucinar con imágenes de fiestas y ya no puede pensar en otra cosa porque escuchas tambores en la cabeza, uno ve fuego, bosques, aves exóticas… Fuego, tragos…
… Y de repente suena la alarma del despertador…
La cabeza piensa en trabajo… Es justo de eso de lo que voy a hablar.

Los telescopios gemelos del Observatorio Keck son los telescopios ópticos e infrarrojos científicamente más productivos del mundo.
Los espejos primarios de los telescopios tienen 10 metros de diámetro y cada uno está compuesto por 36 segmentos hexagonales que funcionan en conjunto como una sola pieza de vidrio reflectante.
La cumbre de Maunakea, 4205 msnm no tiene cadenas montañosas cercanas que alteren la atmósfera superior.
Pocas luces de la ciudad contaminan los cielos nocturnos de Hawaii, durante la mayor parte del año, la atmósfera sobre Maunakea es clara, tranquila y seca, lo que ofrece la mejor vista de la Tierra.

The twin telescopes of the Keck Observatory are the most scientifically productive optical and infrared telescopes in the world.
The telescope's primary mirrors are 10 meters in diameter and each is made up of 36 hexagonal segments that work together as a single piece of reflective glass. The Maunakea summit, 4205 msnm, has no nearby mountain ranges that alter the upper atmosphere.
Few city lights pollute Hawaii's night skies, for most of the year the atmosphere over Maunakea is clear, calm, and dry, offering the best view on Earth.

DEIMOS: el espectrógrafo multiobjeto de imágenes extragalácticas profundas es el espectrógrafo óptico más avanzado del mundo, capaz de recopilar espectros de 130 galaxias o más en una sola exposición.
ESI: el espectrógrafo y generador de imágenes Echellette captura espectros de alta resolución de galaxias y cuásares muy tenues que van desde el azul al infrarrojo en una sola exposición.
HIRES: el más grande y más complejo mecánicamente de los instrumentos principales de Keck, el espectrómetro Echelle de alta resolución divide la luz de las estrellas entrantes en los colores que la componen para medir la intensidad precisa de cada uno de los miles de canales de color.

VISIBLE BAND (0.3-1.0 microns) DEIMOS: The Deep Extragalactic Imaging Multi-Object Spectrograph is the world's most advanced optical spectrograph, capable of collecting spectra from 130 or more galaxies in a single exposure.
ESI: The Echellette Imager and Spectrograph captures high-resolution spectra of very faint galaxies and quasars ranging from blue to infrared in a single exposure.
HIRES - The largest and most mechanically complex of Keck's flagship instruments, the high-resolution Echelle spectrometer splits incoming starlight into its component colors to measure the precise intensity of each of the thousands of color channels .

Partners of W.M. The Keck Observatory is pleased to announce the 2020 Keck Science Meeting, which will take place online on Thursday, September 24-25. The meeting will bring together Keck users from Caltech, University of California, NASA, University of Hawaii, Yale University, Notre Dame, Swinburne University, ANU, Australian Keck users via AAL, Subaru Observatory and Gemini Observatory.

Como
toda la información del evento se encuentra en la paginas web de referencia voy
a contar sobre la metodología de trabajo:
El
evento se trato de un meeting online, son jóvenes investigadores que llevan
adelante actividades relacionadas con el Keck Observatory o investigaciones de
las que pueden participar otros observatorios.
Esto
es significativo porque además de tener un universo muy amplio en centro de
observación en particular se espera con mucha expectativa y estamos hablando
del Jame Webb (JWST).
Respecto
al meeting se desarrolló en dos días con horario del Pacifico. Las
presentaciones eran dinámicas de apenas unos minutos con una ronda de preguntas
por presentación, eso lo pueden comprobar en la página de youtube que pongo
como referencia.
Luego
venia sesiones de trabajo más holgadas en tiempo respecto a algún instrumento óptico,
junto a dos sesiones por días de presentación de Poster donde por suerte ingresó
mi poster (pasó el filtro del comité científico, el poster más ambicioso de la
humanidad y el más humilde por otro lado).
Las
plataformas se llevaron adelante con dos programas ZOOM y SLACK. El primero
estamos muy acostumbrados a su uso, por lo menos los que llevamos adelante
charlas porque el programa nos permite grabar las charlas e interactuar compartiendo
otras aplicaciones, el segundo es nuevo para mí, porque son para sesiones de un
gran número de mesas de trabajo. En este caso superaron las 100 sesiones de
trabajo en general. Con un gran número de participantes junto con la
organización aproximadamente 460 personas. Todo se llevó adelante sin tener ningún
inconveniente por suerte, no noté ni un minuto de demora. Eso quiere decir que
la puntualidad es todavía algo apreciado en el mundo.

The event was an online meeting, they are young researchers who carry out activities related to the Keck Observatory or investigations in which other observatories can participate.
This is significant because in addition to having a very wide universe in a particular observation center, it is expected with great expectation and we are talking about the Jame Webb (JWST).
